ween Twilight fans may have fueled the intense interest in New Moon star Kristen Stewart, but they’re going to be locked out of the actress’s next films: the R-rated The Runaways, the Joan Jett-Cherie Currie biopic with her New Moon costar Dakota Fanning (due in theaters March 19), and Welcome to the Rileys, which both screened at the Sundance Film Festival recently.

At the film fest in Park City, Utah, the 19-year-old wore skinny jeans and sneakers in the snow and a khaki jacket she pulled close against the endless cold. She had that rebel without a cause vibe, a junior James Dean. This was not an actress racing toward couture and acclaim, but nervously holding herself together, knees thrumming uncontrollably, until she could slip behind her next part.

As the 70’s rock rebel Joan Jett, Stewart channels the teen spirit of girls growing up in a world where pudgy guitar teachers unapologetically told them they couldn’t play electric guitar simply because they were girls. As Jett, she also takes drugs, blows pot smoke into the mouth of her bandmate Cherie Currie (Fanning) and plants a same-sex kiss. Bye-bye, Bella: Twilight this is not.

In Welcome to the Rileys Stewart plays a low-rent teen stripper who turns tricks for cash in New Orleans.The story? This runaway becomes the catalyst for parents (Oscar nominee Melissa Leo and The Sopranos star James Gandolfini) grieving over their daughter’s accidental death. It’s the kind of part that seems like a rite of passage for child stars stepping into adulthood. The actress is believable as yet another waif who would be luckier to make choices between a vampire and a wolfman, than the johns that walk in off Bourbon Street.

While these R-rated parts may not be quite the role models for which most moms would have asked, Stewart’s eclectic choice of roles, and ability to meet their demands, is a preface to what will likely be a long and prolific career in front of the camera. Is she ready for the challenge?

I talked to a couple of girls who worked in a strip club that we actually used for the set. One of them was really dynamic, really interesting and charismatic. The other girl was less willing to talk about stuff, which means she’s probably more in touch with it than the girl that was willing to talk about it. She’s in the middle.

Actress Kristen Stewart, talking about the research for her role as a stripper and prostitute in the new film “Welcome to the Rileys,” which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this week. The film also stars James Gandolfini and Melissa Leo as a couple who recently lost their teenage daughter who take in the wayward Stewart. It’ll be one of three high-profile films that the young actress appears in this year, as she’ll not only open “Welcome to the Rileys” but also “The Runaways” (a biopic in which she stars as legendary rocker Joan Jett) and, of course, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” (which involves monsters of some sort).

Speaking of “The Runaways,” Stewart impressed at least one person in her portrayal of Jett: Original Runaways Jett and Cherie Currie. “It was too much for me to handle, to be honest with you,” Currie told MTV News. “For the first time, I got to see what it was like to be in an audience and look at the Runaways. It was that right-on. This all is so surreal! I went to sleep, woke up in this amazing dream, and I can’t wake up. I don’t want to wake up. And guess what? I don’t have to!”

“The Runaways” opens in theaters on March 19, while “Welcome to the Rileys” should hit some time later this year.

So there are tons of versions this year and better options with DVD and Blu-Ray releasing the same day. Every version has a little something different when it comes to the extras: red carpet interviews, Eclipse previews, etc. (though as of right now their product descriptions leave a bit to be desired so that you can’t tell who has what. Trust us those things are on different versions and we’re currently emailing several chains stating “um, did you forget to mention something in your product listings”) So check it out and decide which version works for you:

Kristen Stewart’s Haiti Donation - No Comments

While George Clooney, Robert Pattinson, and practically every other celeb in the world helped raise more than $57 Million for Haiti relief, one star was upset she couldn’t partake in the telethon last Friday: Kristen Stewart.

The Twilight babe was traveling Friday to Park City for the Sundance Film Festival, ’cause K.Stew had two films (Welcome to the Rileys and The Runaways) premiering.

But don’t think that stopped her from helping out…

At the premiere for Welcome to the Rileys, the film’s producers, Giovanni Agnelli and Scott Bloom, filled us in on Kristen’s idea of how to help raise money for Haiti.

K.Stew & Co. raised cash by hosting four lucky ladies in Park City. The fortunate four paid handsomely for the privilege of a free plane ticket, a place to stay and the pleasure of Kristen’s company.

“They paid, like, a thousand dollars a piece for tickets which went to support the cause for Haiti,” says Agnelli.

Adds Bloom:

“Kristen on the plane here said [she was upset] she could not be doing the telethon…So we decided to use all that money to benefit Haiti.”

Don’t ya just heart this girl? Glad to hear she’s a celebrity who knows how to use her star power for good.

Also, anyone else just a tad curious where Kristen was traveling from all day Friday? Just an FYI: It only takes about an hour and 15 minutes to get from L.A. to Salt Lake City.

But a trip from, oh say, England perhaps, certainly would make you completely unavailable for quite some time.

Just sayin’!

Joan Jett Tells Us Kristen Stewart Is ‘Down To Earth, Authentic & Warm!’ - No Comments

Kristen Stewart, 19, may seem like a moody loner in photographs, but Joan Jett, 51, says she’s actually a lot of fun! Joan spoke with HollywoodLife.com at the Jan. 24 Sundance premiere of The Runaways in Park City, Utah, and she told us what working with (and teaching) Kristen was really like. “I had seen her on the movies and magazine covers, but I wasn’t colored by that,” she told us. “I found her to be down to earth, authentic and warm.”

She also said Kristen barely had to be given any direction when assuming the role of rocker Joan. “I didn’t give her any tips,” she said. “She took me in, she studied the Runaways music, she watched me and listened to my voice. I gave her some recordings of me talking… when I was 14. I had a Maryland/Pennsylvania accent that she wanted. She had pictures … she had books … she did her own thing.”

Wow! Who knew Kristen could be such a quick study?

And how did Joan feel about watching Kristen become her? “I thought it was really freaky,” Joan admitted.
